And yes, I know there are sections of the community that aren’t so inclusive, but let’s try to stay positive here.

And new versions of the game have helped with this, providing gamers with their own preferred take on the game. Like crunchy role playing? Try 3.5 or Pathfinder. Like a more rules-lite version? Try Basic D&D or one of the reams of OSR clones. Like a story-focused game? Try 5e. There’s something for everyone.

F&*%, it sure gets me out of reality. I mean, seriously, who wouldn’t want a break from life every once in a while?

Wizards of the Coast (WoTC), the company behind D&D, has employed various strategies to reach a wider audience and engage existing fans, including a massive digital presence – embracing digital platforms and social media to connect with the gaming community on a global scale and keeping players excited and invested in the game (this also backfired on them during the recent OGL debacle, but more on that another time).

Licensing agreements have led to an array of D&D-themed merchandise, from clothing to tabletop accessories, making it easier for fans to showcase their passion for the game and attract new players through word-of-mouth.

WoTC has embraced virtual tabletop platforms, allowing players to connect and play remotely, especially during times when in-person gaming was not feasible. Let’s not talk about their own money-squeezing attempts to produce the next big VTT. This is supposed to be a positive blog post lol.
