New DnD 5e Magic Item: Shaker of Fate

A semi-regular column: new magic items! Let’s see how long I can sustain the enthusiasm for this lol!

Shaker of Fate

Wondrous Item, Very Rare (requires attunement)

This ornate, palm-sized ball is crafted from polished obsidian and inlaid with shimmering gold filigree. Mystical grains of enchanted sand swirl within the ball, whispering the secrets of destiny to those who dare to shake it.

As an ACTION, the wielder can shake the Shaker of Fate and ask a question about their immediate future, rolling a D6 to determine the outcome whispered to the user:

  • 1-2:Dark omens”disadvantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw.
  • 3-4:Uncertain tides”—nothing happens.
  • 5-6:Propitious winds”advantage on the next attack roll, ability check, or saving throw.

If the Shaker is used more than once per long rest, fate grows wary – roll a d20. On a 1, the wielder’s luck twists unpredictably—a random effect from the Wild Magic Surge table occurs (if it is specifically spell-related and the user is not a caster, roll again on the table).
