Phoenix Shield

Wondrous Item (Shield), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)

An ornate shield is emblazoned with the image of a magnificent phoenix, its wings spread wide protectively. It glows faintly with a fiery aura and its surface is warm to the touch. The attuned wielder has resistance to fire damage while using the Phoenix Shield.

Once per long rest, when the attuned wielder is reduced to 0 HP (but not killed outright), the user drops to 1 HP instead and can choose to release a burst of fiery energy from the shield – all creatures of the wielder’s choice within 10 feet must make a DC 15 DEX save or take 10 (3d6) fire damage, half on a success.

As a BONUS action, the attuned wielder can sprout ethereal wings of fire, gaining a flying speed of 30 feet for 1 minute (the wings can’t be used as a weapon). This ability can be used once per long rest.
