New DnD 5e Magic Item: Marvo’s Marionette

A semi-regular column: new magic items! Let’s see how long I can sustain the enthusiasm for this lol!

Marvo’s Marionette

Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

This wooden doll is carved in the likeness of a small, hooded figure with intricate runes etched into its surface. When a spellcaster attunes to Marvo’s Marionette, it animates. The Marionette has AC 14, 10 HP, moves up to 30 ft. per turn and does not speak. The attuned user can use a BONUS action to issue mental commands to the Marionette, which acts on their initiative.

Marvo’s Marionette has the following properties:

  • Mimicry (1/day): The attuned user can command the Marionette to mimic the appearance of any Small or Tiny creature they have seen before. The transformation lasts for 1 hour or until the user ends it as a BONUS action.
  • Marionette’s Watch (3/day): While within 100 ft. of the Marionette, the attuned user can use an ACTION to see through its eyes and hear through its ears as if they were in its space. During this time, the user is deaf and blind. This can be maintained by concentration up to one minute.
  • Spell-Link (1/day): When casting a spell of 3rd level or lower, the attuned user can choose to use their REACTION to have the Marionette cast the spell using the user’s spell save DC and spell attack modifier. The Marionette must be within 100 ft. of the user to do so, and the attuned user’s relevant spell slot and ACTION are expended once cast.
