Daggerheart Quick Unboxing!

I’m very impressed with the new Daggerheart Core Set, which I picked up the other day. I haven’t finished reading it but it I am very impressed with the layout, production values, art, writing and design.

The game draws inspiration (and rules) from a number of my favorite TTRPGs (all of which are acknowledged in the front of t the book), including Blades in the Dark, Numenera, Pathfinder 2e, The Wildsea and Apocalypse World.

Daggerheart uses a card system for abilities and spells that seems gimmicky but actually works well (and will no doubt make the company a nice profit with each new release having cards to accompany it).

The game is very narratively driven, and the 2d12 system and hope and fear currency seems to work well, especially in combat.

There’s lots of support and tutorials available, a QuickStart adventure and a free SRD. Five diverse separate world settings are included with their own mechanics and world maps.

I believe Daggerheart has the potential to become the 2nd most popular fantasy TTRPG after DnD 5e (because let’s face it, nothing is gonna topple that juggernaut). Give it a solid year or two, and Pathfinder 2e may drop to third place. A big prediction, but Critical Role is behind this new system 100% and it shows.

At some point I might do a proper review. For the moment, enjoy this quick sneak peek 🙂
