How and When. A poem.

I wonder now, what I would say
If you appeared some sunny day
Gracious in defeat/success
Never worst and never best

Olive branch or olive oil
To smooth the wayward ground
Words succinct and biting tongue
To hold me to account

And as I watched you go away
Wistful thoughts of now and then
Churning heart and roiling brain
Then and now, how and when
